Diaper Trike

Diaper Tricycle Tutorial - Found on Southern Fried Gal
To begin, I use 15 (size one or two) diapers for each back wheel and 25 diapers for the front wheel. Roll one diaper up into a fairly tight roll. Then start layering the other diapers around the spacing the ends out to make the tread for the wheels. Secure with rubber bands to hold in place.

I have done this enough to have the top of the last diaper meet the bottom of a previous one. As a type A gal, I like that the orderliness of this. Use as many rubber bands as you need to keep the circle going. I think I use about three. In the end you will cover them up with pretty ribbon.

There may be a better way to secure the ribbon around each wheel but I prefer to do so with a safety pin. I personally can never find one when I need one around here so I like the usability of the pins in the final product. The wheels will be strategically placed to hide all our secrets. Rinse and repeat with the 25 diapers to create the front wheel. Once the wheels are assembled, poke your fingers through to create an opening.

I think the most fun part of this project is mixing and matching the accessories to create the trike. You will need two cotton receiving blankets (the stiffer the better), two bibs, one bottle, and a pair of coordinating socks. Individually roll up the blankets as tightly as you can. These will become what holds the trike together. Then insert one blanket through the front wheel.

Place the back wheels on either side of the front wheel. I like for the treads of my back wheel to face backwards and the front to run forward. Thread the blanket from the front wheel into the outside back wheels. Pull together tightly and secure (again I use a safety pin). Then I slide the blanket around so the pinned part is hidden inside one of the back wheels.
Next thread the other rolled blanket evenly through the front wheel. Place a bib over the front wheel to create the fender. I like to tuck my bib around to the back for added interest. Place the other bib over the back of the trike to create the seat.

If the bib is large enough I like to fasten the seat bib through the front wheel . If not I just tuck so that it is secure and orderly. Place a bottle on top of the front bib, pull up the second blanket to create bunny ears and secure with a rubber band. Work with the blanket to get the handles just right. It may take a bit for gravity to help the handle bars lay down the way you want them.

Finally add the finishing touches! Conceal the rubber band at the handle bars with a ribbon tied into a pretty bow. Use the socks on each end of the handle bars to create grippers (aren't they adorable?).
Then fluff and adjust until you get it just the way you want it.

For a beautiful presentation, wrap with tulle and tie with a coordinating ribbon. You'll have everyone oohing and ahhing over your skills at the shower!

I hope this helps you create gifts for your friends and family. If you decide to craft one (or twelve) please shoot me a picture of how it turns out! If you are crafty challenged or just don't have the time for a project like this you can order one from me and I'll ship to you or the gift recipient!

Little Gym

I took the kids to a birthday party at little gym in Kingwood for a set of twins in Juliet's class. It's one of those balance beam, tumbling, climbing, run around like crazy places. I had taken her there before but not lately. Nate went with us and had a blast being a big kid. These parents are so great letting him come to the parties and participate. He thought he could do it all and all by himself. If I redirected him he cried so if he wasn't in danger of being hurt I just let him be. Little mother hen (Juliet) helped me watch him some too.The biggest success was the parachute, even I like that one!  These are iPhone pictures, sorry, they aren't the best!

Wednesday night

It's another Wednesday night. We just got home from Cubbies and Juliet is playing in the tub, completely wound up, and Nate is already in bed. It's been a long couple of days with Nate having hand, foot and mouth and being all around cranky. I have been home with him the last two day so we have had some time together to love on each other. He really is a mommies baby boy.
I have to say I am so proud of Juliet, she had 4 things to memorize his week and she nailed them all. That's a lot for a little person to remember. She does dance 2 times a week now, once on Tuesday nights and again on Thursday at school. She seems to really enjoy dance. She started PreK last week and has to wear uniforms mon-thurs. This week it has been a struggle as I think the newness has worn off already. I asked her what she wants to be for halloween, she told me a princess, I asked which one and showed her the Disney store website. She chose tinkerbell because she has wings. We are on a wing kick since she found a set from Ren Fest. Oh yeah and she now wants her ears pierced, she is actually wearing star stickers on her ears tonight.
Nathaniel is a full blown boy, he is into everything, climbs or stands on anything, and seems to always have a bump or bruise. Just today he pulled something out of the fridge and something else knocked him in the face causing a bloody nose. He also thinks he needs to play in the trash. I told him no, get out, well he just kept standing there so I walked over to make him move and realized his fingers were stuck. Again, all I can say is boy. He started in the toddler class last week and screamed every morning I dropped him off, poor baby is out all this week do we start all over next week after being home with us for what will be 9 days. I shudder to think about it. Sigh.
Both kids are little fish as as long as they have their floaties on. We have taken to the bay house twice and Lynne and Scott's twice. They love the water.
These two are total opposites. The fairy princess ballerina and the rough and tumble little boy. My two precious gifts from God, are both finally in bed. Wow they make me tired!

Sweet big sister

She gave brother a ride home on her bike. Too bad I missed all the grins and giggles. He loved it.
